General Description / History
Agra, city of the Taj Mahal, lying on the river Yamuna, is 200km away from Delhi. The monument is one of the seven wonders of the world, built by Shah Jahan for the memory of his beloved favourite wife Mumtaz. The Agra Fort was the seat for power for three generation of mughals in 17th century.
The City of the Taj is an educational and business centre known for its craftsmen and handicrafts. In the great epic Mahabharata the region of Agra is described, as 'Agraban' and it was an integral part of 'Braj Bhoomi' or the land of Lord Krishna. Concrete history outlines the origins of Agra to 1475 AD when it was under the reign of Raja Badal Singh. However, Agra came into limelight during the rule of the Afghan King Sikandar Lodhi, who had made it the capital of his empire. Later in 1526 AD the Mughal Emperor Babar took upon himself the task for rendering Agra, a unique character and beauty of its own.

Taj Mahal: Taj Mahal is one of the most beautiful masterpieces of architecture in the world. Agra, situated about 200 km south of New Delhi, was the Capital of the Mughals (Moguls), the Muslim Emperors who ruled Northern India between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. Agra Fort: Built by the great Emperor Akbar in 1565 A.D. the fort Is a masterpiece of design and construction. Within the fort are a number of exquisite buildings, including the Moti Masjid, Diwane-E-Am, Diwani-E-Khaas and Musanman Burj, where the Emperor Shah Jahan died in imprisonment beside Jahangirs place, Khaas Mahal and the Sheesh Mahal.
Sikandra Fort: 12km the tomb of Akbar, begun by the emperor himself and completed by his son, Jehangir. This richly decorated structure is a quaint mixture of styles.

Fatehpur Sikri: A royal city perfectly preserved, Fatehpur Sikri provides a marvellous escape into the past . Akbar embarked on the construction of a new capital here when a prophecy of the birth of a male royal heir, by the Sufi saint Salim Chisti of Sikri, came true.

Vrindavan is believed to have been the stage on which Krishna performed his famous romantic and sportive roles. The most famous as well as the finest temple in Vrindavan is that of Govinda Deva, dating from 1590.
